Rick Courson started Cedar Bay Homes in 1990 after moving back to the Northwest after 20 years as a Utah builder. His construction experience spans over 34 years, including custom homes, small commercial projects and multiple units.
In 1991 he built a home in Silverdale which became a source of illness for his entire family. After a year of unsolved illness he found the problem was the home in which they were living. The carpet and pad were off gassing into the home causing all kinds of health problems.
From this devastating experience he has educated himself and built test homes to improve indoor air quality to the point that a Cedar Bay Home is sought after for that quality alone. He has become a consultant and teacher to trade organizations, home owners, and government officials as well as the American Lung Association’s Health Home for professionals. A founding builder and resource for the Built Green program of the Kitsap HBA. Rick has been awarded the Kitsap Home Builders Parade of Homes "Environmental Award" three times. His work has been noticed nationwide and a home he built received outstanding reviews on a National Built Green tour.
Rick is in demand as a speaker and regularly gives one hour programs for realtors and building officials to bring up the awareness of the pitfalls of poor construction techniques and materials. What this all means for the consumer is a Green Built home with the first defense on indoor air quality. The extra benefits include a wide range of improvements to every home in durability, energy efficiency, recycle content, and healthy indoor environment. Buyers should always consider their reaction when they enter a new home and feel over come with the strong odors of chemicals. It just doesn’t need to happen.
